RE: Canadian Campground Pics

Here's some pictures of our September 6/7, 2008 trip to Louise Falls Campground in Twin Falls Territorial Park, near Enterprise, Northwest Territories.

RE: Bring a knife to Canada?

We're big on helmets up here (not by choice). However, if you're helmeted and have 3-4 packs of darts with you to ward of ravagers, you should be good to go.
j_m
How about lawn darts? They should go good with helmuts, no?

RE: UPDATE: Campbell Hwy, north of Watson Lake -- pictures added

sue.t,
I just checked out some of your pictures. Great job! I am also a big fan of the Yukon.
Did you guys ever camp at Little Salmon Lake? If so, do you have any pictures from there? That was a place I would like to camp and paddle across to the other side.
I also enjoyed your pics of the Muncho Lake area, another beautiful spot.

Damn, that's too bad. I thought it was a great drive in 05. I hope they get it shaped up by next year.
We also enjoyed the drive on the Campbell Hwy in 2005. With my wife and 4 kids and gear loaded to the rafters in our caravan. Took 5 hours from Watson Lake to Ross River. Gased up, bought some supplies and headed up the North Canol into the NWT.

RE: Anyone towing with a 2008 Grand Caravan ?

I tow with a 2002 Grand Caravan. We just got our first pup in June but we've already covered over 3000 kms. So far so good.
We got a 1750 lb Fleetwood Sea Pine. I would highly recommend a weight distribution hitch. It makes a huge difference for my set up with a regular rear suspension in my van.
Good luck

RE: Newbie w/2002 Dogde GC Mini-V wants help, thanks

Thank you Caddywhompus!
I've already put over 3000 kms on my van pulling my new Sea Pine. No troubles so far. It just takes a little longer then usual to get where we're going.
The WD makes a huge difference.

RE: Newbie w/2002 Dogde GC Mini-V wants help, thanks

Thanks for your input folks.
One aspect of the labour, the wiring, did take a long time to complete.
I needed the WD hitch, 7 pin wiring harness and the brake controller. None of those were part of the Dodge dealers estimate.
Another factor is the price comparison between the US and Canada. With most pups I was looking at the difference was around $2K.
Anyway, I'm over it. I operate in pretty remote areas with little or no service available, certainly no rv dealers. I wanted to get it right the first time and didn't mind spending extra for top end and peace of mind.
Meet you further on up the road.

Thanks to all those who replied and offered advice.
I ended up going with the RV dealer hitch installation. That included weight distribution, 7 pin wiring and a Prodigy brake control.
I'm glad I went with WD because it really lifts up the back of my van a couple of inches when I pull the lever into place. Plus, so far so good on the towing. The first time I hooked it up at the dealer I drove 12 hours (1100 kms).

RE: Someone slashed my PUP

Sorry about that. Really feel for you. We just got a new Fleetwood. I've been worried about that type of thing as well. We have a problem with that in our community. Another reason I should clean the garage out to make room for my pup. Just last week somebody went into the glove box of my van, which was parked in my drive way and took a camera. We usually always lock it, but that night we forgot to.
I might not sleep tonight.

RE: Greetings From Canada's Northwest Territories

Howdy NWT Magic! :B
Please go hang out in RVing in Canada and Alaska regularly. I'm sure you will be able to answer "want to travel to NWT" questions.
Dempster is very high priority on my 'when I go that way' list.
We have a connection NWT and NL. Helge Ingstad, he who located the Viking settlement on our Northern Peninsula, L'Anse aux Meadows, NL, also visited your area in his early working years. He wrote about it in the 30's in The Land of Feast and Famine. That's been reissued in paperback this year. It's findable via http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/
I would rather expect to be in your nearest public library, too.
:B
Hi Little Kopit!
I own that book you're talking about, but in hard cover. I've been to a lot of the places he talks about in the book, including Fort Fitzgerald, Fort Smith and Snowdrift (now known as Lutselk'e).
Plus I've been out to fishing and hunting lodges in the caribou range and upper Thelon River.
No roads out there, so no RVing options:)
I will be checking out the Canada forum.

Hope this picture works out. Hauled our new Fleetwood Sea Pine back from Edmonton on its maiden voyage 1100 kms. Then took it camping to nearby Louise Falls for our first camping trip past weekend.
